World Athletics awards Anju Bobby George as Woman of the Year

World Athletics has honoured Anju Bobby George with the ‘Woman of the Year’ award. Anju Bobby George, who inspired women with efforts to advance the sport in India, won a bronze medal in the long jump of the 2003 World Athletics Championships.

World Athletics said in a release, “Former international long jump player Anju Bobby George of India is still associated with the sport. She opened a training academy for young girls in 2016 which has resulted in a World Under 20 medalist. As the Senior Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India, she has been a constant advocate of gender equality. She is also guiding school girls for future leadership in sports.

Anju said that she is proud and overwhelmed to receive this honour. He tweeted, “There is nothing better feeling than waking up in the morning to do something for the game. Thank you for appreciating my efforts.”
