Track and field events ie athletics are the main attraction of the Olympic Games, but no Indian could win a medal in these events before Neeraj. Playing for British India, Norman Pritchard won two medals in athletics in the Olympics in 1900, but he was not an Indian but an Englishman.

Neeraj, who works in the Indian Army, has won gold medals in 5 mega sports events before the Tokyo Olympics in his career. He has won gold medals in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Asian Championships, South Asian Games and World Junior Championships.

After doing his initial training in javelin throw in the country, Neeraj Chopra has taken training from Germany’s biomechanics expert Klaus Bartonitz to improve his throwing skills. After this, his performance came to a standstill and he won big matches.

Neeraj Chopra hails from Panipat district of Haryana. He joined athletics to lose weight. Soon he started performing well in age group competitions and went on to win several tournaments. He joined the Indian Army in 2016 and now proudly holds India’s head high like a soldier.

In the Olympic Games, India has got a gold medal in an event after 13 years. Earlier, shooter Abhinav Bindra won gold in 2008 Beijing Olympics. Bindra won the gold in the 10m air rifle event.

This is India’s 10th gold medal so far in the Olympic Games. India has earlier won 8 gold medals in hockey and 1 gold medal in shooting. In this way, it is also only the second individual gold medal for India after Abhinav Bindra.

India’s campaign at the Tokyo Olympics ended with the javelin throw. Neeraj made a golden end of this journey. This has become the most successful Olympics for India. India won a total of 7 medals including 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze. India won 6 medals in 2012 London Olympics.
