Dubai: Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee is confident that the Aaron Finch-led side will be able to make a comeback in the T20 World Cup after recovering from a crushing defeat at the hands of England but for this, its top batsmen will have to perform well.

ENG thrash AUS

England, performing well against Australia on 30 October, dismissed their team for 125 runs and then achieved the target in just 11.4 overs and won by eight wickets.

Disappointed with the poor game of the Kangaroo team

Brett Lee wrote in his column on the official website of the ICC, ‘England performed unmatched against Australia. The world champion of ODI cricket showed a great game. Australia also did well in some stages but in other parts of the match, they suffered a crushing defeat due to poor play.’

The danger of being out on AUS

Australia have 4 points from 3 matches in Group One and now they have to win their remaining matches because South Africa are ahead of them in the points table with 6 points from 4 matches and the Proteas team net run rate is also better.

Will the Kangaroo team return?

Brett Lee said, “Now it’s not all doom and gloom for Australia – I try and look at things from a positive point of view. There are a lot of people saying, ‘he shouldn’t be in the team’, ‘he shouldn’t be batting there’ and so on.

“But they say in Hindi, ‘aaram se, aaram se’, and that means to relax and go about things patiently. I think that’s a really good expression that the team can use just to relax. Everything will be okay.

“I know that there could be changes, they might look to shuffle the order, they might look to some different bowling options but sometimes you just get outplayed and England outplayed Australia.”

‘Top order has to perform’

Brett Lee feels that Australia’s top batting order batsmen David Warner, captain Finch, Steve Smith, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis will have to perform well.

Expectations from Marcus Stoinis

Brett Lee said, “The top order has to fire, they have to get runs from guys like Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, who has been in good form the first two games but missed out with a duck against England and that’s part of the game.

“Matthew Wade has been getting a few runs, getting some starts but Australia needs a big 40 or 50 from him to finish so there are areas where Australia can take some positives out.”

These 2 teams are the contenders for the trophy

Before the T20 World Cup, Brett Lee had said that it would not be easy to beat Team India, but this former fast bowler has now called England and Pakistan as the title contenders.
