New Delhi: South Africa defeated England by 10 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup match here on Saturday. Despite this win, South Africa was knocked out of the tournament while England and Australia were able to reach the semi-finals from Group One. Batting first, South Africa scored 189 runs for two wickets. In reply, England scored 179 for eight wickets.
South Africa’s victory spoiled
Even though the African team won this match, their dream of reaching the semi-finals was shattered due to the net run rate. Let us let you know that Rossi van der Dussen’s career-high score and Aiden Markram’s stormy half-century helped South Africa make a strong score of 189 for two against England in the Group One match of the ICC T20 World Cup Super 12 on Saturday.
Dussen’s innings spoiled
Dussen scored an unbeaten 94 off 60 balls which included five fours and six sixes. This is the highest score for South Africa in the T20 World Cup. He shared an unbroken partnership of 103 runs in 52 balls with Quinton de Kock (34 off 27 balls) for the second wicket with 71 and Markram (52 not out off 25 balls, two fours, four sixes) for the third wicket. South Africa scored 71 runs in the last five overs. If South Africa had restricted England to a score of fewer than 131 runs, it would have reached the semi-finals. But this could not happen.
Dussen completed his fifty in 37 balls. He took the team’s score past 100 runs by hitting Wood for a six at deep square leg while Markram put the bowlers under pressure by sending Rashid for six runs.
