Sharjah: Rajasthan Royals had a decent start to their IPL 2020 campaign after they defeated CSK by 16 runs in Sharjah. After being put in to bat, RR rode on some brilliant batting performance from Sanju Samson, captain Steve Smith and a late surge from Jofra Archer to put 216/7 in 20 overs.
Samson struck 32-ball 74 while Smith notched up a half-century. But RR hammered a total of 30 runs in the last over of the innings by Lungi Ngidi. Archer smashed four sixes in the over.
For CSK, it was Sam Curran who was the pick of the bowlers. He scalped three wickets in the innings.
Chasing a total of 217, CSK did get a positive start to the innings after Murali Vijay and Shane Watson put 56 runs for the first wicket but Dhoni’s side then lost wickets at regular intervals.
While CSK kept losing wickets, Faf du Plessis hammered 72 off 37 while Dhoni too chipped in with a couple of sixes at the end of the innings. He remained unbeaten at 29 off 17. Rahul Tewatia picked up three wickets in the innings.
