Lionel Messi will stay at Barcelona. “I will stay at the club so as not to get into a legal dispute. I don’t want to go to war against the club of my life.”
Earlier, Messi had officially told Barcelona that he wants to leave the club. The announcement had come after Barca’s 8-2 humiliation at the hands of Bayern Munich in Champions League fixture. The club has confirmed that the Argentina great has sent a note expressing his desire to leave.
Esporte Interativo correspondent Marcelo Bechler, who earlier revealed Neymar’s shock move to Paris Saint-Germain, had claimed that the Argentine wanted to leave Barca ‘immediately.’
Though, Messi’s contract with Barca expires next summer, he was not really happy with the way things have been working in the club.
There is 700 million pound buyout clause on Messi. This means that only the player can initiate a transfer move after applying a request.
According to reports in Sunday Mirror, EPL club Manchester City were the front-runners to make the bid for Messi.
