Abu Dhabi: Thanks to the all-round display, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals comfortably in the 15th match of IPL 2020 played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first. Jos Buttler looked in decent touch right from word go putting pressure on Udana and Washington Sundar with lovely boundaries.
Isuru Udana got the breakthrough for Royal Challengers Bangalore as Steve Smith tried to play an expansive shot that hit inside edge onto the stumps.
Navdeep Saini was bought into the attack and immediately struck getting rid of Buttler with a lovely catch by Paddikal at first slips to leave Rajasthan Royals in trouble. A superb catch by Yuzvendra Chahal on his follow-through. The umpires checked it for a clean catch and were given outputting them under more pressure. At the end of the first six overs, Rajasthan Royals were in some trouble at 38 for 3.
Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers kept a tight line and length against Uthappa and Lomror. At the end of the first timeout, Rajasthan Royals made 57 for 3. Lomror playing his first match of the tournament impressed with his stroke play. Chahal got the breakthrough dismissing Robin Uthappa trying to clear long-off gave a simple catch to Udana. Uthappa and Lomor added 39 runs for the 4th wicket.
Lomror played with intent putting some pressure on Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers. On the other hand, Riyan Parag struggled to time the ball. At the end of the second timeout, Rajasthan Royals scored 85 for 4. Udana struck for Royal Challengers Bangalore as he dismissed Riyan Parag giving a simple catch to Finch at long-on to leave RR at 105 for 5. Kohli bought Chahal for his final over and did not disappoint taking the wicket of Lomror. Jofra Archer and Rahul Tewaita hit some lusty blows in the last few overs putting on unbeaten 40 runs for the 7th wicket to help Rajasthan Royals post below par 154 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 155 runs to win, it was an impressive start for Devdutt Paddikal who took on the Rajasthan Royals bowlers right from word go. Shreyas Gopal made the breakthrough for RR dismissing Aaron Finch with a review. The umpire gave it not out and Smith decided to review the decision, it was overturned.
RCB captain Virat Kohli took some time to settle while Paddikal impressed with his stroke play. At the end of first six overs, RCB made 50 for 1 and ended the first timeout at 55 for 1. After the timeout, Paddikal and Kohli kept on rotating the strike and hit boundaries to put pressure on RR bowlers. The left-handed youngster Paddikal completed his third fifty off 34 balls while Kohli showed his class after settling in.
After three successive failures, Kohli returned to form reaching his fifty off 41 balls. Paddikal was dismissed trying to give some room and bowled by Archer. Paddikal and Kohli added 99 runs for the 2nd wicket.
With the wicket of Paddikal, the second timeout was called with the scoreboard reading 124 for 2. AB de Villiers and Kohli did not have any problems to chase the target as RCB won the match by 8 wickets with 5 balls to spare.
Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their 3rd win of the tournament so far. For his match-winning spell of 3 for 24 in 4 overs, Chahal was awarded the man of the match.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 158 for 2 in 19.1 overs ( Kohli 72, Paddikal 63, Archer 1/18) beat Rajasthan Royals 154 for 6 in 20 overs ( Lomror 47, Tewaita 24, Chahal 3/24) by 8 wickets.
