Dubai: The IPL franchise Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting said on Saturday that the fast bowlers could leave their impact in the early stages of the league’s 13th season. In the 13th season of IPL, Delhi Capitals have to play their first match with Kings XI Punjab in Abu Dhabi today. The UAE pitches are considered to be spinners friendly, but Ponting believes that as the tournament progresses, the pitches will slow down.
Ponting said in a virtual press conference on Saturday, ‘I think the conditions may change in the middle of the tournament as only 3 grounds are being used. We have 24 matches to play here in Dubai. Talking to the fieldworker on other days, he has only 4 wickets which can be used. So he is going to play 5 or more matches on every pitch.’
Ponting also said, ‘We trained a few days ago in the main ground, where a lot of green grass on the wicket. But I think the grass can be cut a little in the coming time. But I think at the beginning of the tournament we will see some fast bowlers making an impact because as the tournament progresses, the wicket will slow down and spin will start.’
