Dwayne Bravo announces retirement from international cricket after West Indies knocked out from T20 World Cup

Abu Dhabi: West Indies star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has announced his retirement from international cricket in the middle of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. After the defeat in the Super-12 stage on 4 November, Bravo took an important decision regarding his career.

Bravo’s heartbroken after defeat

This 38-year-old Dwayne Bravo had taken retirement earlier but returned to international cricket again in the year 2019. He is an important part of the Caribbean team in the current T20 World Cup. With the defeat against Sri Lanka on Thursday, the West Indies team was out of the race for the semi-finals, due to which Bravo was heartbroken.

Sri Lanka beat West Indies

Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 20 runs in this match of the Super 12 stage. This was the third loss in 4 matches for the Caribbean team and the team now has to play against Australia on 6 November which will be Bravo’s last international match.

The 17-year career will end

Bravo, who played international cricket for almost 17 years, said, ‘I think the time has come. My career has been great. There have been many ups and downs representing West Indies for 18 years, but when I look back, I am very grateful to have represented that field and the Caribbean people for so long.

Bravo got emotional

Dwayne Bravo said after Sri Lanka’s match, ‘I am very proud to have won three ICC titles. Two of these I have won under the leadership of my captain (Darren Sammy) standing here on the left. I am proud that we were part of an era of cricketers who were able to make a name for themselves on the global stage.

Last match on Caribbean soil

Earlier, during the home series against Pakistan, West Indies captain Kieron Pollard had said that Dwayne Bravo was playing his last T20 International game on Caribbean soil.

Bravo played in all seven world cups

Dwayne Bravo has participated in all 7 T20 World Cups and helped West Indies become champions in 2012 and 2016. He scored 1245 runs in 90 T20 Internationals and took 78 wickets for his team.

Debuted in 2004

Dwayne Bravo, who made his international debut in the year 2004, has scored 2200 runs in 40 Tests at an average of 31.42 and has also taken 86 wickets, he has 199 wickets and 2968 runs in 164 ODIs. Bravo, however, admitted that his team’s performance in the T20 World Cup was not good.

Supporting the young players, Dwayne Bravo said, ‘I will now try to share my experience with the young players. I think the future of West Indies cricket is bright in the white-ball format and it is important for us to continue supporting and encouraging the players.

West Indies flopped in the tournament

Dwayne Bravo, who played for MS Dhoni’s team Chennai Super Kings in IPL, said, ‘This World Cup was not what we expected. We shouldn’t be disappointed with this, it was a tough competition.’
