New Delhi: Team India’s fast bowler Ishant Sharma is celebrating his 32nd birthday today. The Delhi-based bowler, who holds the record for being India’s second-longest Test cricketer with a height of 6 feet 4 inches tall, may not have been a contender for a regular place in the Indian team but was given the Arjuna Award four days ago. Tells the story of his achievement. Ishant, who took the record of taking 100 wickets at the youngest age in Test cricket in 2011, has recorded many great achievements for Team India, but there is one achievement for which he will always be remembered. This achievement is Team India to win the Test after 28 years in the Lords Cricket Stadium, which is called the Mecca of Cricket.
Ishant took 7 wickets in the second innings
Ishant Sharma took 7 wickets for 74 runs in the second innings of the Test match and won the best bowling performance of his Test career along with winning the test match for Team India. India played 295 runs with the help of Ajinkya Rahane’s 103 runs while playing first. In response, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling of 6 wickets for 82 runs also prevented England for 319 runs. In the second innings, Team India scored 342 runs with the help of Murali Vijay’s 95 runs and Ravindra Jadeja’s 68 runs. After this, Ishant broke the havoc on the English team and he bundled the entire England team for just 223 runs with 7 wickets. Team India had won the test match on the historic ground by 95 runs for the first time since 1986.
Record of six wickets in innings four times abroad
Ishant Sharma is just another Indian fast bowler who has taken 6 or more wickets in an innings on foreign soil for four or more times. Ishant did this feat twice in New Zealand and 1-1 times on England and West Indies soil. Prior to Ishant, this record was just in the name of Kapil Dev, who took 6 wickets in the innings in Pakistan and 1-1 in Australia and West Indies twice in his career.
Highest wicket takers in England
Ishant holds the record for being the highest Test wicket taker in England. He is also jointly with Kapil Dev in this record, on the first position. While Ishant has taken 43 wickets of England in his 12 Tests, Kapil Dev took 13 Tests to do this feat.
9th wicket world record partnership
Ishant Sharma holds the world record for the highest partnership of 81 runs for the 9th wicket while chasing a target in Test cricket. He made this record against Australia in the Test match played at Mohali Cricket Ground from 1 to 5 October 2010. Chasing the target of 216 runs in the fourth innings to win, the Indian team had lost their 8 wickets for just 124 runs and the defeat seemed certain. But VVS Laxman, along with Ishant, shared an 81-run record for the 9th wicket. When Ishant was dismissed by 31 runs, the team’s score was 205 runs. After this, Laxman who scored not out 73, together with Pragyan Ojha, gave the team victory by 1 wicket. It is counted among the most exciting Test matches of Indian cricket. With their partnership, Laxman and Ishant broke the West Indies’ Winston Benjamin and Jeff Dujon’s record against Pakistan in Barbados in 1988.
Ishant Sharma has been the biggest contributor in 8 matches in the countries ie Australia, New Zealand, England and South Africa. In other words, during his presentation, Team India has added so many victories in these countries to his account, which was not found in the entire career of other Indian veterans. In Ishant’s presence, 3 Test matches in Australia, 2 Test matches in Africa, 2 Test matches in England and 1 Test match in New Zealand were won in the Indian team’s account. New Zealand’s Test victory was destined for Team India after 33 years on its soil. On one hand, Ishant has proved like the lucky charm of Team India in these countries.
Ishant is close to 300 wickets club
Ishant is very close to making another record. If he is successful in taking 3 wickets in the next Test series, then his name will also be included in the bowlers of the world, who have more than 300 Test wickets to their name. He will become the sixth but only third fast bowler to do this for India. So far, only Anil Kumble (619 wickets), Kapil Dev (434 wickets), Harbhajan Singh (417 wickets), Ravichandran Ashwin (365 wickets) and Zaheer Khan (311 wickets) have done this feat for Team India. So far Ishant has taken 297 wickets in 97 Test matches in his career, 115 wickets in 80 ODIs and 8 wickets in 14 T20s. He has also played innings of 57 runs once in one of the Test matches.
