New Delhi: On the sixth day of Chaitra Navratri, Maa Katyayani, the sixth form of Maa Durga, is worshipped. According to the scriptures, the mother’s name was Katyayani only because she was born as a daughter of the sage Katyayan. Mother is considered to be the goddess of the power of the mind and by worshipping her a person can subdue all her senses. Also, by worshipping the mother with a sincere mind, one gets rid of disease, bereavement and fear.
What is the nature of mother Katyayani?
The mother’s form is very bright and stunning and the mother has four arms. The right-hand side of the mother is in the Abhaya mudra and the lower hand is in the Abhaya mudra. At the same time, the sword in the upper hand on the left hand and the lotus-flower in the bottom hand are embellished. By the practice of mother Katyayani, the four fruits of religion, meaning, work and salvation are attained.

The sixth day of Navratri is considered especially fruitful for marriageable girls. According to the mythological beliefs that worshipping mother Katyayani removes the hindrance in marriage and Lord Brihaspati is happy and makes the sum of marriage. Worship Goddess Katyayani by wearing red or yellow clothes. Worship the Mother Goddess with worshiping materials like Kumkum, Akshat, Turmeric, flowers etc. Offer 3 lumps of turmeric to the mother, then keep them with you. The mother should offer yellow flowers and yellow naivedya. Perform the aarti of Maa Katyayani with incense and then distribute prasad. It is believed that mother Katyayani is delighted by the enjoyment of honey. Therefore, offering honey to the mother Katyayani while worshiping on the sixth day of Navratri is considered auspicious.
