New York: US President Donald Trump welcomed an Indian woman into the ‘Great American Family of Citizens’ in a dramatic way during the Republican National Convention at the White House to show her support for legal immigration.
Trump on Tuesday introduced Sundari Narayanan as ‘a talented software developer’ after he was sworn in as an American citizen.
Trump said that Sundari Narayanan has been living in the US for the past 13 years and is survived by her husband and two beautiful and loving children.
Trump turned his head and asked, ‘They are the most precious thing in your life, right?’ Narayanan nodded yes to this.
Dressed in a golden border light pink saree, Sundari Narayanan added colour to the ceremony. At the same time, along with him, Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf administered the oath of office to four others, including a Sudan veterinarian who wore a hijab. The other three were from Bolivia, Lebanon and Ghana. He showed the changing face of America through a multicultural mixed program, which also featured black immigrants from various religions around the world.
Despite being subject to criticism from Democrats and immigration activists, the president was using the program to empower differences and show his support for a legal waiver. Regarding coming to the United States legally and following the rules of obtaining citizenship, he said, ‘You followed the rules, you followed the laws, you learned about your history, adopted our values and made yourself a man of integrity.’
Trump said he followed the laws, though it was not easy. Later, after the convention session, another expatriate praised Trump and appealed him to be elected president again. She was Trump’s wife Melania, who is from Slovenia herself and took US citizenship. Significantly, Trump has taken stern action against illegal immigrants. They have built a wall on the southern border to deter migrants and deport illegal immigrants who were criminal background
