New Delhi: On Monday, the Supreme Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 1 on the sentence of Prashant Bhushan, a lawyer convicted of criminal contempt of the Supreme Court. The court ordered to deposit the fine by 15 September. Non-submission of penalty will prohibit 3 months in jail and practice for 3 years.

In the last hearing, Prashant Bhushan refused to apologize in the Supreme Court, after which the court had asked Bhushan’s lawyer to advise you what punishment should be given to Bhushan? The Supreme Court had completed the hearing last Tuesday and reserved judgment on the sentence.

The court had sought his opinion from the Attorney General on the issue of sentencing Prashant Bhushan, a convict in the 2020 case of criminal contempt of the Supreme Court, in the hearing. There is a need to improve inside, so Bhushan should be forgiven. During the hearing, the Supreme Court had said that Bhushan had filed his additional statement in the court last Monday, in which he hoped that Bhushan would improve his attitude, but did not do so. The Supreme Court said that we had given Bhushan a chance. A mistake is always a mistake and the person concerned must realize it. It is the dignity of the court. Bhushan said that I will not apologize.
