New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday banned Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra and related activities in Puri, Odisha due to Coronavirus crisis. Let us tell you that on June 23, the Rath Yatra was to be held in Puri, in which 10 to 12 lakh people were expected to gather, this program runs for about 10 days.

Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice AS The Bopanna Bench, while hearing the case through video conference, said that the Rath Yatra cannot be allowed in Puri this year, keeping in mind the interest of public health and safety of citizens.

Chief Justice of India said, ‘Lord Jagannath will not forgive us if we allow this. Such events cannot take place at the time of the epidemic. This order is necessary for the health of the people.’

The Supreme Court asked the Odisha government not to allow rath yatra or religious procession and related activities anywhere in the state to avoid the spread of the epidemic.

Explain that last week, an NGO had filed a petition in the Supreme Court, saying that the state government was not able to take a decision on the order to stop Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra and the preparations for the Rath Yatra were going on very fast. A crowd of millions will gather in the Rath Yatra. In this case, the corona epidemic can spread.
