Important events that happened on September 29


New Delhi: The day of September 29 in history is recorded as a witness to the bold step by India to enter Pakistan’s border and destroy its terrorist camps. While India claimed to have successfully carried out the operation, Pakistan denied any such action. 18 soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack on the local headquarters of the Indian Army near the LoC in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. It was considered one of the biggest attacks on the Indian Army.

In the Uri attack on 18 September 2016, the hand of terrorists sitting across the border was told. India took a surgical strike against Pakistan on September 29 to avenge this attack. A series of other important events recorded on the date of September 29 in the history of the country are as follows: –

1836: Establishment of Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

1942: Matangini Hazra was shot dead at the age of 72 while leading a Congress procession in August movement in Tumluk, Bengal.

1923: According to the Balfour Declaration (1917): Britain’s consent to establish a ghetto in Palestine was finally ratified by the Council of the Lead of Nations, which came into existence today.

1938: Poland reasserts its authority over Teschen. After the First World War, this thriving region was divided between Poland and Czechoslovakia. The relationship between the two countries over the rights of this area remained a stretch.

1959: India’s Aarti Saha swims across the English Channel. She became the first woman in Asia to do so. Swimming waves and icy waters made it a difficult challenge to swim across the huge water body and called it ‘Mount Everest of swimming’. Aarti successfully completed this dangerous journey at the age of 19 years.

1961: Birth of Australia’s first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Born in Wales, Julia became Prime Minister of Australia in 2010.

1962: Inauguration of Birla Planetarium in Calcutta.

1970: Union Carbide established the first water treatment institute at its Chemicals and Plastics plant in Bombay. The sewage water to be cleaned in it was to be used in industrial works.

1977: India and Bangladesh sign a treaty on the Ganga river water sharing.

1988: America successfully launches its first manned spacecraft two and a half years after the Challenger crashed.

2016: India claims to have shelled terrorists hiding around the border in infiltration by conducting a surgical strike against Pakistan. Pakistan denied India’s claim.
