COVID-19 cases rise to 12000 in India, 170 districts are hotspots

The Coronavirus outbreak has brought the world on a standstill. India too is suffering from the same for the past month and the increase in the number of affected people is concerning. According to the latest report, the cases have crossed the 12000-mark.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has now listed a total of 170 as the COVID-19 hotspots across the country. Out of these, 123 districts are termed as “large outbreaks” while 47 are “clusters”.

Bandra controversy

A reporter of the renowned news channel ABP Majha has been arrested along with 10 others by Mumbai Police on Wednesday for allegedly having a role in “rumour mongering” that instigated a gathering of around 2000 migrant workers in Bandra.

PM Modi on Tuesday had announced that the lockdown would be extended till May 3. ABP Majha journalist Rahul Kulkarni had cited an internal Railways document to report that special trains would transport stranded migrant workers back home.

Later the police said that the report was “incorrect” while Kulkarni was taken into custody under sections of the IPC and the Epidemic Act 1897.

72 people put under quarantine

As many 72 people have been put under quarantine after a pizza delivery employee was tested positive of Coronavirus in South Delhi area.

District Magistrate (South Delhi) B M Mishra told The Indian Express, “All of them are under home quarantine, and will be tested if they develop symptoms.”
