Modi government’s gift to farmers, increase in MSP of Rabi crops

New Delhi: The Modi government has announced a hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of six rabi crops and on Monday, has handed over the farmers of the country. The maximum MSP of lentils has been increased by Rs 300 per quintal, while the MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs 50 per quintal.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the increase in MSP of six major crops of the Rabi season of the crop year 2020-21 (July-June) on Monday. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar announced the government’s decision to increase the MSP of rabi crops. Tomar said that farmers will get a 106 per cent profit on the cost price. Whereas procurement at MSP will continue.

Support Price – Rs 5100 per quintal
Increase – 4.6 per cent i.e. Rs 225 per quintal
Profit – 78 per cent

Barley
Support Price – Rs 1600 per quintal
Growth rate – 4.9 per cent i.e. Rs 75 per quintal
Profit – 65 per cent

Lentil–
Support Price – Rs 5100 per quintal
Growth rate – 6.3 per cent i.e. Rs 300 per quintal
Profit – 78 per cent

Mustard and Rapeseed–
Support Price – Rs 4650 per quintal
Growth rate – 5.1 per cent i.e. Rs 225 per quintal
Profit – 93 per cent

Saffron
Support Price – Rs 5327 per quintal
Growth rate – 2.1 per cent i.e. Rs 112 per quintal
Profit – 50 per cent

Wheat
Support Price – 1975 per quintal
Growth rate – 2.6 per cent i.e. Rs 50 per quintal
Profit – 106 per cent

Grain–
Support Price – Rs 1868 per quintal
