New Delhi: The hearing of the Dominica High Court has been postponed amid efforts to extradite fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi from Dominica. The matter will be heard again today (Thursday). A team of Indian officials is camping in Dominica itself. Meanwhile, Mehul Choksi’s wife Preeti Choksi has broken the silence on the news being run about the alleged ‘mystery girl’.
Mehul has been in Antigua since 2018
Mehul Choksi went missing on May 23 mysteriously from Antigua & Barbuda where he has been living as a civilian since 2018. In 2019, Antigua PM Gaston Browne also admitted that Mehul Choksi had hidden information related to citizenship. The 8-member legal team can present this letter in the court of Dominica. The Prime Minister of Antigua has now said, Choksi is using the courts to protect himself from the revocation of his citizenship, to protect himself from the law and change agencies.
Indian officials gave this argument
Meanwhile, former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director AP Singh said, ‘Dominica can send Mehul Choksi to India as she has no legal authority in Dominica.’ However, Mehul Choksi alleged before the court that he was kidnapped and brought to a third country (Dominica) against his will. Now the court has to decide on Choksi’s deportation. On the other hand, the team of Indian officials who reached Dominica argues that Choksi is still an Indian citizen and an Interpol Red Notice is issued against him.
On the other hand, Chetan Choksi, brother of Mehul Choksi has reached Dominica. Choksi’s brother reached Dominica on 29 May in a private plane to assist in the legal matter. The Caribbean newspaper has claimed that Mehul Choksi’s brother had offered to bribe the opposition leader of Dominica, but speaking to affiliate channel WION, Dominica’s Leader of Opposition Lennox Linton denied all these allegations.
Choksi’s wife breaks silence on ‘Mystery Girl’
Meanwhile, Mehul Choksi’s wife Preeti Choksi has broken the silence on the news being run about the alleged girlfriend ‘Mystery Girl’. Preeti has said, ‘That woman knew my husband when she came to Antigua, she used to visit my husband but the woman shown on media channels is not Barbara.
Why the physical and mental torture?
Preeti Choksi said, ‘Mehul has been tortured physically and mentally, human rights have been ignored. If you want to bring him back alive then why was he physically and mentally tortured? Whereas Mehul has many health problems. He is an Antiguan citizen and enjoys all rights and protections following the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda. I have full faith in the rule of law of Caribbean countries. We await his safe and correct return to Antigua at the earliest.
