New Delhi: India was elected a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 8th time on Wednesday. India will remain as a temporary member of the Security Council between 2021-22. Prior to this, India has carried out this responsibility in 1950-51, 1967-68, 1972-73, 1977-78, 1984-85, 1991-92 and 2011-12. The presence of the Security Council increases the scope of any country to interfere and dominate the UN system. In such a situation, it is very important for India to reach the Security Council after 8 years.
However, Pakistan is extremely upset by this. Pakistan has said that India’s selection of a temporary member of the Security Council in the United Nations is a matter of concern. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mohammad Qureshi has said that it is not a big deal for India to join the Security Council temporarily. It does not matter. But it is definitely a concern for us.
There are 15 countries in the Security Council
The most important part of the United Nations is the United Security Council, which maintains the balance of power all over the world. This Security Council consists of a total of 15 countries, out of which five countries have permanent membership. These countries are America, Russia, France, Britain and China. Apart from this, ten other countries have temporary membership of the Security Council and along with these countries, India has also become a part of the Security Council.
