Former UN official wrote to Greta Thunberg, gave this advice

New Delhi: International child rights activist Greta Thunberg has received strong criticism for commenting on political issues such as farmers’ protests in India. Mohinder Gulati, former chief operating officer of United Nations Sustainable Energy for All, has written a letter to Thunberg. He has also sent this letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Youth will bring change for a better future

In this letter, Gulati has written that when you (Greta Thunberg) spoke to the UNCCC in 2018 on the issue of climate change, I praised your courage and commitment. As a chief operating officer of United Nations Sustainable Energy for All, by 2015, I had advocated for the Global Development Agreement for Sustainable Development Goal-7 and the Paris Climate Agreement. I heard you in 2018 and 2019, my heart was delighted because we were advocating that the youth will bring change for the better future and you emerged as the torch of that faith.

The letter is written with despair

In this letter, he further wrote, ‘I am writing to you with some disappointment that you have tried to interfere in political issues like farmers’ protests in India. It is not as simple and easy as you understand. Gulati wrote, ‘You are doing good work for climate change. Climate change is a potential threat to humanity that needs urgent serious consideration. We need a global consensus for the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
