New Delhi: The government will now import it to deal with the shortage of medical oxygen in the country. At present, it has been decided to import 50 thousand metric tons of medical oxygen. According to sources, the Central Government’s Empowered Group-2 (EG2) has started estimating the needs of Medical Oxygen in 12 states battling Corona. With the help of the PM-CARES Fund, 100 new hospitals are being built in the country. In which oxygen plants will also be installed. Apart from these, 50 thousand metric tons of medical oxygen will be imported from outside countries.
The availability of compulsory medical devices and oxygen in the country was discussed in the EG2 meeting held in Delhi on Thursday. After discussion in the meeting, 3 major decisions were taken. The first of which was that the availability of medical oxygen should be checked in the 12 states of the country most affected by Corona. Medical oxygen is very important in saving the lives of serious corona patients.
States where corona cases are increasing the most. They include Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. Medical oxygen demand in Maharashtra has exceeded the total oxygen manufacturing capacity in the state. At the same time, there is no production centre for manufacturing oxygen in Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, oxygen is produced in states like Gujarat, Karnataka and Rajasthan, but its demand has increased there too.
Medical oxygen supply became a big issue
In the next few weeks, DPIIT, the Union Ministry of Health (MOHFW), the Union Ministry of Steel, the respective states and the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organization (PESO) jointly conducted a joint exercise to provide clarity and assurance on the supply of medical oxygen. Producers of oxygen manufacturing units also participated in this exercise. In this exercise, the demand of states and the total production capacity of medical oxygen were matched. With this, a framework was also prepared to show the states how to use medical oxygen better.
According to the information, the 12 states most affected by Corona sent 4880 MT, 5619 MT and 6593 MT demand for medical oxygen. Based on this, the Union Health Ministry has issued orders for the import of medical oxygen.
Emphasis on setting up PSA plant
The second point discussed in the meeting was to identify 100 hospitals with Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA). Hospitals possessing PSA technology are successful in making their own oxygen, reducing the burden on the national grid of medical oxygen. The PM-Cares Fund released funds to build 162 such PSA plants. With this, 100 such hospitals are being identified, which can set up these plants, so that there is no shortage of medical oxygen in the country.
