New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the ‘Transparent Taxation – Honoring the Honest’ platform for honest taxpayers of the country. With this new system, many facilities will be provided for the taxpayers of the country. They will get rid of the income tax department and will get rid of unnecessary disputes. While launching this platform, PM Modi praised honest taxpayers on the one hand and the other hand advised those who do not pay taxes.
‘There is a change in both thinking and approach’
PM Modi said that the process of Structural Reforms going on in the country has reached a new stage today. He said that Transparency Taxation, Honoring the Honor, this new system of the 21st-century tax system has been launched today. The platform has major reforms such as faceless assessment, faceless appeal and taxpayer charter. Taxpayer’s Charter is also a big step in the country’s development journey. He said that earlier decisions taken under compulsion were also given the name of Reform. Now there has been revenge in both thinking and approach.
‘Faceless, fearless, fairness system’
PM Modi said that ‘Now the taxation system is becoming faceless, this system is giving fairness and trust to the taxpayer. Faceless Assessment, Taxpayer Charter has come into force today. Faceless appeal facility will start for citizens across the country from 25th September i.e. Deen Dayal Upadhyay’s birthday. He said that even though the tax system is becoming faceless, it is giving confidence to the taxpayer for fairness and fearlessness.
‘India’s image in the world is changing’
PM Modi said that ‘the honest taxpayer of the country plays a huge role in nation-building. When the life of honest taxpayers of the country becomes easy, it moves forward, only then the country also develops. Our government has abolished about one and a half thousand laws in the last few years. Not only this, but India has also moved from 134th position to 63rd position in Ease of Doing Business ranking. The instance of record FDI during Corona is an example of this.
‘Now taxpayers will get respect’
PM Modi said that “Now the taxpayer will be treated fair, courteous and rational.” That is, the income tax department will now have to take care of the taxpayer’s severity with sensitivity. Now the taxpayer will have to believe it, the department cannot see it without any doubt without any basis. He said that “Taxpayers have to pay taxes because this is how the country runs, and it is also the responsibility of the government to make good use of the taxpayer’s pie.” When the government is providing both security and convenience to taxpayers, taxpayers should also be more aware.
‘Tax disputes also reduced’
PM Modi told that “Out of all the tax returns used in the year 2012-13, there was scrutiny of 0.94%. In the year 2018-19, this figure has come down to 0.26%. That is, the scrutiny of the case has reduced by about 4 times. Its reduction is telling how big the change is. He said that in the last 6-7 years, the number of those filing income tax returns has increased by about two and a half crores, but it is also true that in the country of 130 crores it is still very less. In such a large country only one and a half crore companions collect income tax. Those who can pay tax, but they are not in the tax net yet, they should come forward as they wish, this is my request and hope. Let us prove the resolve of new India, self-reliant India, respecting the spirit of trust, rights, obligations, platforms.
‘There will also be a change in tax governance’
PM Modi further said, ‘In the last 6 years, India has seen a new model of governance developing in the tax administration. Till now it happens that in the city where we live, the tax department of the same city handles all the things related to our tax. Be it scrutiny, notice, survey or seizure, the income tax department of the same city, the income tax officer plays the main role. Taxpayer’s Charter is also a big step in the country’s development journey.
