Mumbai: Actress Payal Ghosh filed an FIR a few days ago against filmmaker Anurag Kashyap alleging sexual harassment, following which the Mumbai Police has sent summons to the producer on Wednesday. Taking action on Payal’s complaint, Anurag has been summoned by the Versova police for questioning in the rape case tomorrow i.e. at 11 am on Thursday.
Payal along with his lawyer Nitin Satpute had complained to the Mumbai Police on the basis of which an FIR was lodged at the Versova police station late on 22 September. An officer said that an FIR has been registered under Sections 376 (I), 354, 341 and 342. The inspection of the matter is going on.
The actress in her complaint has accused Kashyap of raping her in 2013 at a location on Yari Road in Versova. The officer said that the actress and her lawyer went to the Oshiwara police station on September 21. There he was asked to go to the Versova police station as the incident is from the same judicial area. They went to the Oshiwara police station because Kashyap’s office is in that area.
Satpute had tweeted after the FIR was filed, “Finally, FIR has been registered against the accused in the case of rape, wrongful restraint …. and breach of modesty of the woman.”
The actress had tweeted and accused Kashyap of sexually assaulting her. At the same time, Kashyap has dismissed the allegations, calling it an attempt to “silence” him.
The same Kashyap’s lawyer had issued a statement on his behalf which said – ‘My client, Anurag Kashyap is deeply saddened by false allegations of a sexual offence. The allegations of sexual misconduct that have come up recently against them are completely false, malicious and full of dishonesty. It is said that a social movement #MeToo which is very important has been chosen for vested interests and has become the only tool for character assassination.’
