Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha cricket team captain Prasant Mohapatra died in AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Wednesday due to Covid-19. Dr S.N. Mohanty, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, said that Mohapatra, 47, died at 7.51 am despite all the efforts of doctors.

Prashant (Prasant Mohapatra) ‘s father and Rajya Sabha MP Raghunath Mohapatra also died on May 9 due to Covid-19. Prasant’s brother Jaswant is also infected with Covid-19 and is undergoing treatment at this hospital.
Born on September 1, 1973, Prasant was a right-handed batsman. He made his Ranji Trophy debut against Bihar in 1990. He also played in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy for the Eastern Region. Prasant played 45 first-class matches in which he scored 2196 runs at an average of 30.08. This includes five centuries and 11 half-centuries.
