New Delhi: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that India suffered a major setback due to the sudden increase in cases of coronavirus infection after the Hazrat Nizamuddin Markaz incident. He said that this incident is a lesson for all communities that when a country takes a collective decision, it should be disciplined and followed.
He also said that there is no point in talking about this now because all those who came in contact with the participants of the Tablighi Jamaat program were detected and those who were infected with the coronavirus were treated. In a conversation with BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao, Harsh Vardhan said that state governments, Department of Information Technology, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Home Minister Amit Shah played an important role in monitoring after the Tablighi Jamaat incident.
Asked by Rao whether the incident triggered the infection, Vardhan said, “We don’t like to raise this issue but there is no doubt about the second week of March when the coronavirus was spreading rapidly in the world and even after one and a half months after the first case of infection in India, very few cases were reported in some states, then this unfortunate incident happened. “
He said, “Due to the implementation of the law in Delhi, 10-15 people could not gather. At that time people from one and a half dozen countries were gathered there.”
Vardhan said that the rule of social distancing was not followed in the Nizamuddin incident. He said that people from outside were bringing disease with them and at such a time more than a thousand people had gathered without the knowledge of the administration. Vardhan said that when the officials got the information, these people were removed and many people left from there themselves.
“The country suffered a major setback when the cases of infection suddenly increased and the government had to make a decision on lockdown and other stringent measures,” he said.
The Union Minister said, “It was an unfortunate incident and a lesson for all sections and communities of the country that when a country takes a collective decision, then everyone should follow it discipline fully because it is in the larger interest of everyone.” Vardhan described the implementation of the lockdown as a bold decision taken at the right time and said that the lockdown has acted as a ‘social vaccine’ against the virus.
