Washington: Is Corona Virus airborne, simply put, does it spread in the air? The World Health Organization (WHO) may have denied it directly, but hundreds of scientists believe that corona is an airborne disease. According to the New York Times (NYT) report, hundreds of scientists claim that small particles of coronavirus are present in the air, which can infect people. They have also requested the WHO to change its recommendations in this regard.
The WHO has been stating that the corona spreads from one person to another when the droplets of the infected person coming out of their mouth or nose during coughing or sneezing reach another person. While the research of scientists from many countries is different from this. According to the NYT, scientists have written an open letter to the WHO, which is planned to be published in a scientific journal next week. In this paper, 239 scientists from 32 countries gave evidence that small particles of the virus in the air can infect people.
These scientists say that along with large droplets coming out of an infected person’s coughing or sneezing, even small drops of water coming out during his/her breath can spread in the air for as long as the room and infect another person. However, the WHO says that the evidence of the virus being found in the air could not be believed.
Dr Benedetta Allegranzi, the technical head of the WHO’s infection prevention and control team, said in this regard, ‘Especially in the last few months we have said many times that airborne transmission is possible, but its No concrete or clear evidence has been found yet.’
